Newbie to Guild Wars Factions
Hello everyone!
A few days a go i bought guild wars factions and have been playing it since. Now im no starnger when it comes to online games and have played many of them. But iwould like to ask some question about this game. Is it worth buying the first game if i have factions? Ive noticed that the level cap is 20 in the game. Is there any plans to raise the cap? Ive only played a few days and im almost level 7. Im still getting my head around the crafting side of the game at the moment and how to salvage items from items. How do i get bolts of cloths witout having to buy a stack of 10 each time from an NPC? And how do i setup a secondary character in the game and is this worth doing? Does this alos mean starting again at level 1 just to build the secondary character up? Last edited by dazonline; May 28, 2006 at 12:41 PM // 12:41.. |

There's a person in my guild who only has Factions and he has learned the game very well. The starting island in Factions will teach you the basics so take your time with the quests and don't rush with the story and leave the island too early.
Can't say about others but I find Prophecies pretty boring after playing Factions. Has very little challenge. Probably because it takes so long to get to level 20 in it while Factions will take you there more quickly so you'll be using your skills while fighting, not the numbers on your hero menu. You can't craft anything yourself. Using npc's to craft armour is what you'll have to do to get better protection and stats. They also can craft weapons but that's not as essential since you can get those from collectors basically free, just need certain items to trade for them. Finding the right collectors and seeing what they want, check GuildWiki: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page Bookmark it, loads of information there you'll no doubt be needing later. Regular salvage kits is what you can use on weapons and items the monsters drop. This'll get you certain amount of common crafting materials, depending of the item. Expert salvage kits are used to get better stuff out of them, like runes and weapon upgrades. When you get a purple or gold item drop, use identification kit on it to see what's in it. More on weapon upgrades here. I don't really know anyone who would only use just one character. Pretty much everyone I know have every character slot in use. If you are asking how to make a second character, it would be the very same process what you did on creating your first char. And yes, new characters start at level 1 at the beginning of the game. What might comfort you is that all characters in one account share the same storage space, so getting better gear to your new characters should be easier this time around. |

i have characters in all slots of both accounts you might note that if you have a long time character you should leave it instead of deleting it for a new character as when a character (not the account) reaches 1 year of age a birthday present with a minipet appears for you level 20 is just getting ready to play the game and is not the end of the game or even a meaningful goal (it does help keep you alive so....... ) |

Thanks for all the info. I have now setup a secondary character, which is a monk.
Is there such a thing as bosses in this game that spawn? A bit like an elite or special mob? |

Bosses Spawn different places in the game. They deal double dmg!! and maybe they will drop green/unique weapons. U can see that the mob is a boss by its aura. If its a warrior boss it will have a yellow aura.
www.guildwiki.org <--- use this to check which bosses there are ingame and what they drop + what skills they use. 1 important thing is the bosses have Elite skills. An elite skill is a (SUPER) skill (depends). U can only have 1 elite in your skillbar. U need to have "Capture skill" to Cap The skill. |
